random thoughts

ok, i've decided what i'm giving up for lent: I'm limiting myself to checking facebook on my blackberry- I think this will be a bigger sacrifice than I'm anticipating- but that should be the point.

also, this twittering stuff is all over the place: for instance, in today's wapo.

top chef finale tonight: i think stefan will win but i'll be rooting for carla. i mean, honestly, could she possibly be more delightful?

i'm thinking lost will be absolutely incredible tonight: check out richardneverages.blogspot.com if you're a fan. it's a group blog with the people I've shared lost with for the last several seasons.

twitter

so i'm seriously considering doing it: tweeting, reading other people's tweets.

i haven't been able to escape twitter this week. my friend nina asked me what it was the other day. the npr folks can't stop talking about how they're on twitter and facebook and all kinds of other hip new media platforms. jeff frederick (VA's GOP party chairman) ruined his party's chances of taking control of the state senate by twittering about it too soon. (btw jeff, XOXO). nyt had a cool piece on it.

so yeah, i think i'm going to do it. wish me luck.

UPDATE: I'm signed up...jchunteire. Let me know if you're on and/or you know cool people to follow.

back in the saddle

haven't blogged on here since change came to town. obama has been a busy busy bee so far- not sure if any of his plans will work but since he inherited the most horrendous circumstances of any president in my memory (granted i'm not too old, although my upcoming bday is scaring the crap out of me), i trust the fact that he has talked to economists about what needs to be done.

ahh, standing up for working people

it's so refreshing to hear mayor bernero give a full throated defense of working men and women and the uaw. the uaw is an institution that pretty much built the middle class. nice to see someone acknowledge that.

the fox news guy looks like a complete ass in this clip. no other worker gets health care for life? bullshit- government workers, our military men and women, and tons of other people who retired from good (union and non-union) jobs do.

"this isn't a campaign speech? we're just talking." so pundits (esp on FNC) are permitted to scream their heads off over britney spears and octopulet babies and this mayor isn't allowed to stand up for workers? *channeling seth meyers* really?! REally?!
